We had some spots open up on the first offshore trip of the year that we can keep Gag Grouper and last year they were chomping.

This is a trip to the part of the gulf known as the 30 break. This is where the bottom depth changes abruptly at 180 feet and creates a hiding place for all of the big offshore grouper and snapper. It can also be home to some pelagic fish like wahoo and black-fin tuna. The fish that we catch here are generally larger, angry and meaner than most other places that are fished in the gulf, because of its distance offshore and availability of larger bait fish.
