Excited for opening day, Captains Mitch and Mike and the sold-out Gulfstar headed into a flat calm Gulf of Mexico with high anticipation of finally being able to keep the fish the have been throwing back by the hundreds since last year. The Red Snapper did not disappoint, they were plentiful on every stop. The Mangrove Snapper bite on the first night was pretty good with some Porgies and Vermillion Snapper as well as some nice Gag Grouper mixed in and some nice big fish were caught so no measuring was required! The daytime bite the following day added more nice gags and some molly-whopper b-liners in the 5-7lb range and 2 nice African Pompano’s. The second night was full of action with a hot bite of even more Mango’s, B-liners, Gag Grouper and Red Snapper- all limits hit and then some…  and 2 hangry Black Fin Tuna gave our anglers a run for their money! All in all, a Great Start to what looks to be a Great Season!
