Recommended Tackle
GulfStar provides the equipment you need for your trip. Experienced anglers who prefer to bring their own tackle should use the recommendations below as a guide. A rod length of approximately 7 feet is suggested unless otherwise noted.
44-Hour Fishing Trips
We recommend bringing:
- One spinning rod and reel setup
- One 15–30 lb class rod with a hand-crank reel and 30 lb braided line
- One 20–40 lb class rod with a hand-crank reel and 40–50 lb braided line
Golden Grounds Trips
We recommend bringing:
- One spinning rod and reel setup
- One 15–30 lb class rod with a hand-crank reel and 30 lb braided line
- One 20–40 lb class rod with an electric reel and 40–50 lb braided line
Deep Drop Trips
We recommend bringing:
- One 20–40 lb class rod with an electric reel and 40–50 lb braided line
- One 40–60 lb class rod with an electric reel and 50 lb braided line
Slow Pitch Jigging Trips
Bring the same rod classes and line strengths recommended for our Deep Drop trips, using equipment specifically designed for slow pitch jigging.
These specialized trips are intended for highly experienced anglers who are comfortable fishing deep water with advanced techniques and purpose-built tackle.
