Captain’s Mitch and James reported decent weather, seas and fishing. Friday night anglers trolled on the way out were they caught some nice size Kingfish, and upon arrival to there first stop at around 100-120 feet of water a steady stream of Mango Snapper were put on ice. Once the sun came up, they picked up and moved further offshore into wasters between 160- 190 feet, were Gag and Red Grouper kept lines tight but many larger fish broke away. The day continued with not only Gags and Red Grouper but a return of the Mangos as well. A highlight on this trip was the sizes of the Scamps coming aboard most weighing in around 4-7 lbs. And of course, in true season fashion, American Red Snapper were huge and plentiful, most around 15-18 lbs. In spite of season closure anglers had a fantastic time catching and releasing these big beautiful fish. The jackpot fish was Mike Bavis’ Mango Snapper and this trip we had a tie with John Leib and Kevin Boatwright with their Gag Groupers.
