Capt Jerry steamed the Gulfstar out into seas that were a little rolly going out, but as we got further the seas flattened out and we had a beautiful ride with gorgeous weather. Overall we had a very successful trip. We managed to find a few elusive mutton snappers, one of which was probably a solid 15lb! This mutton was caught on spinning gear and gave the angler a run for his money! The fish took him from the stern to the bow before mate Larry stuck him in the head with a perfect gaff shot. On both nights we also managed to find large schools of XL FLAG sized yellowtail snappers. Eating both squid and thread fin, these fish were hungry and ready to go. Throughout the trip we caught a variety of fish including yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, porgy’s, vermillion snappers, creole snappers, scamp grouper, snowy grouper, yellow edge grouper, 3 big gag groupers (released), 6 big red snappers (released), jacks, and even blue line tilefish. We were able to use 2-3lb of weight while deep dropping at the golden grounds and 4-6oz of weight at night. Overall the conditions were very good, including the ride in with calm seas and some thick fog throughout the morning. The weather during the trip itself was really nice. It was nice and sunny on Saturday and felt like a nice spring day although there was a light chill in the air which felt really great. Tight Lines…Capt Garrett
