“With the water slowly getting warmer, the bite is starting to get better.” – Capt. Mitch

2/16/18 52 Hour Golden Grounds Trip ‘Sold Out’

Most fisherman know what to expect as far as fishing in the winter months. Cold water causes a slower bite and this weekends trip was no exception. However the bite does seem to be picking up. It wasn’t a fish slaughter, but coolers were defiantly filled.  A variety of fish showed themselves. Species such as: Banded Rudder Fish, Lesser Amberjacks, Lion Fish, Margates, Red Porgies, Scamp, Red Grouper, Vermillion Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Squirrellfish, Yellowedge Grouper, Grey Tile Fish and Yellowtail Snapper among other smaller reef fish. Captain Mitch tells me they also caught and released several out of season Gag groupers and Greater Amberjacks.

Being at the dock as mates Eric, Ed, and DJ were cleaning their catch, I got to see their 52 hour haul. They has several stud Yellowedge Groupers they were proud of, as they should be. I also spoke with a few guys from the charter, and they had nothing but good things to say about the results of this weekends trip. The grouper jack pot, goes to Chris Kulik from Celebration, Fl. having caught the largest Yellowedge Grouper. And the Snapper jack pot winner is Geoff Messina from Naples, Fl. with the largest Mangrove Snapper.
