The Verdict is in! The Gag Grouper are in town!!!!
The Gulfstar departed at Midnight on Friday 11/16 to go fish and enjoy the outstanding Gag Grouper fishing that’s happening right now offshore. The First drop was about 9 am and the bite was Red Hot with lots of Gags grouper until about 1 pm. In the mix was some Mangrove Snapper when they could get to the bait faster than the Gags. The afternoon was slower but they managed to catch some nice Red Grouper and other mixed reef fish.
Sundown came and the bite started again and was great through the night. Big Mangos some reaching 8 pounds, big Vermillion snapper and even the Gags were biting at night. As sunrise came the bite slowed but they still picked on the Gags until they started home at around 10:30 am.
The weather was crap on the ride out and steadily improved and of course was calm by the time they got home. With almost 50 head of good size Gags during crap weather and lots of other reef fish action i’m guessing most everybody had big smiles on the ride home as they we thinking…. What if the weather was nice? How many more Gags would have been landed?
